Dr Jacob Eapen is a global pediatrician and a renowned public health physician. After completing his MBBS at Trivandrum Medical College, Dr. Eapen continued his postgraduate studies at both Christian Medical College, Vellore, and CMC, Ludhiana. He then worked as a consultant pediatrician with the Aga Khan Foundation Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, before taking up an assignment with the University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria for three years. In 1984, he proceeded to the USA for further studies and attended the University of California, Berkeley, for his Master's in Public Health.

He then took an assignment with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), where he was responsible for the lives of about 60,000 Indo-Chinese refugees. After his return, he completed his MD at Stanford University in Palo Alto. Currently, he serves as the medical director of Alameda Health System, one of the largest public health systems in California. He is a well-recognized international public health consultant and has given several media presentations and guest lectures around the world. He has served on several state healthcare boards in California and is also a recipient of several awards.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor; six American presidents are also previous recipients.
  • Recipient of the first California Medical Board's physician recognition award.
  • Selected as one of the 40 most outstanding alumni of Stanford University from the past 60 years.
  • Served on the advisory board of the School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley.
  • Recipient of the “Mother Teresa Award” by Friends of the South Asian American Communities (FOSAAC).
  • Recipient of the Achievement Award by the Federation of Malayalee Associations of America (FOMMA).
  • Appointed as the health advisor to the Government of Kerala.
  • First Indian to win a general election in Northern California, elected with 30,000 votes to the board of directors of a local community hospital, Washington Hospital (Fremont, CA). Since then, he has been re-elected five times and currently serves his 18th year on the board.
  • Currently working as the medical director of Alameda Health Systems, one of the largest public health systems in California.
